I love to paint and create, but I also like to write poetry. I have been writing poems for over twenty years, but I don't share them with many people. I am not sure why. I have decided that I would share them here from time to time. I get ideas from little things, something I see or hear. Most of my ideas come when I try to close my eyes to sleep, or while I'm driving in the car. Sometimes my ideas come while I am in church. I like to write what I hear and what I get from a sermon. This poem comes from the mysterious book of Revelations. (2:4, if you'd like to look it up). It seems we all leave our first love from time to time. Thankfully, He has a way of reeling us back in.
First Love
Thou hast left thy first love
And loved the world instead
The eye sees, yet you are blinded,
You hunger, though you've been fed.
You say you love your children
And your country where you're free
But how can you love a single thing
Unless you first love me?
The worldly things, they come and go
As is written, all shall die
But I have overcome the world
There is no one greater than I.
So in your heart, hide my name
And hear that still, small voice call
And never leave your first love,
For it is the greatest love of all.
